Would you believe Halloween in one of my favorite holidays? There is just something magical about this holiday and you don't have to be kid to enjoy it, I love dressing up in my medieval queen gown and greeting the trick-or-treaters at the door. So, today in celebration of All Hallows Eve, I give you a few reasons why this holiday is tops on my list:

THE COSTUMES! Okay, dork alert...I love to get dressed up and we've hosted our share of spooky themed costume parties and kids parties alike. While my favorite costumes usually involve hoop skirts or miles of fabric - the hubster would probably rank the year I was Pocahontas as his number one choice

THE CANDY! Be honest...who doesn't buy an extra bag of their favorites to hide and keep all to themselves? (Although to be fair, I do stash my favorites in my desk drawer all year long, so why should this candy-celebrating holiday hinder my normal activities?)

THE DECORATIONS! Besides the fun pumpkins and ghosts I love walking through the neighborhood on Halloween and seeing the creativity of my neighbors. From spiderwebs to fake limbs appearing to poke through their front lawns - it's fun!

THE MOVIES! I love the halloween movies like "Hokus Pokus" and "Casper" - but will never be caught watching things like "thirteen ghosts" (man that movie scared me silly, I couldn't sleep for days which is why I no longer stay in the room for those frightfests. I'll never forget when I was 17 and my boyfriend didn't drive, I carted the group to the movies to see "The Howling." After being scared shitless, I had to drop off the friends one by one until finally I had to drive home alone in the dark with nothing but my teenage overactive imagination. I think that was the last scary movie I saw while not safely tucked in my own little house or with someone to wrap me up tight and kiss my fears away when it's all done and the credits are rolling.

	WARNING - POLITICAL POSTING AHEAD!

When I first decided to add a blog to my website I reminded myself readers would come here to spend a few minutes with a romance writer. They'd come to share a few laughs with an average American mom with one husband, three kids and a crazy cat from the NY suburbs. I reminded myself there are two things that can quickly turn a readership off from a light and fluffy romance writer's blog - religion and politics.

Now, don't misinterpret that to mean that I don't have strong religious and political opinions, because I do. So much so, in fact, that I have a new personal blog in the planning stage that will let me discuss those two topics in great detail. Rest assured, I will NOT be posting that link here at the Saucy Scribe!

But in the meantime, I have two things that have been nagging at me so much lately and a clip I saw last night pushed me over the edge and I'm here to blog about them, I hope my readers will indulge me this one political post.

Would you believe the First Amendment is my favorite? Hmmm...as a writer and a blogger, I would guess that would not come as a shock. It's a fundamental right of all Americans, guaranteed by our constitution. I don't think it matters what side of the political fence you're on either, extreme left, far right or everything in between - we should all be able to get behind this. So, why is our goverment at this moment waging war on FOX news? I feel they are venturing into dangerous territory here and I'm flat out scared for what it would mean to the country if they continue on this path. The First Amendment gives me the right to read whatever books I choose, disagree with my government and shout it to the world when I agree with them. The First Amendment allows me to write erotic romance, it allows me to read political blogs and watch any news channel I see fit. I might not agree with you, but I would fight for your right to express it. I'm begging the government not to trample on that. For a democracy to work, ALL voices should be heard. Debate is the cornerstone of our great society.

Would you believe I support our armed forces? I hope you not only believe it, but are a supporter as well. Supporting our troops is NOT the same as supporting the cause. You don't have to agree with the wars, you don't have to be a democrat, republican or independent to know that our fighting men and women are there for US. They are there, shedding their blood and putting their lives on hold for ALL OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS. OUR RIGHT TO FREEDOM! Our armed forces don't make policy, they don't choose war over peace. They are doing a job, they are following the orders of the people we elect. You don't agree with the cause? Get out and vote.

Supporting our armed forces means giving them the right tools to do the job in the field. I don't think any decent human being would deny them the right to be prepared for the battles ahead. We live in a great and wonderful country, with every technological advance at our disposal - I'm begging our government to stop the bi-partisan bickering, and do the right thing. Stop wasting time and give our men and women what they need to not only complete their mission, but to bring as many home alive as possible. Every one of those soldiers in the field is the son or daughter of our family, friends and neighbors. When a community loses a loved one - we all feel it! They are all missed.

You might be a Glenn Beck fan, you might not be (and that's your RIGHT to choose!), but he aired this at the end of his program last night. I hope you'll watch it and then go to http://www.milmoms.org and show your support any way you can. (and if you're a mom or at the very least, have a heart...grab a tissue)

And while I'm on a roll. God Bless America! (since I've already crossed the line with my political post, why not toss some religion in there too!)

I hope you'll watch it and then go to http://www.milmoms.org and show your support any way you can.

Would you believe my son is 18 today? I can't! The day he was born doesn't seem that long ago, all the milestones from crawling to now driving...my little boy has grown into a man. Excuse while I go get my tissues...waaaa...

Would you believe I got at LEAST 20 mosquito bites on my ankles, arms and neck in less than 30 minutes? And to make matters worse, I got them standing in front of my house last night defending my 15 yr old to "code enforcement" for the heinous infraction of playing with his airsoft gun with a group of boys at the park. Oh my...what will our youth think up next to terrorize the neighborhood? But do the police come when the teenagers are drinking and shooting heroine in the park after dark? NO. It's much easier to pick on kids playing - because they are the real troublemakers, right?

Would you believe I've joined a group blog? This one is small, should only require one blog a week from me (I think I can handle that ) and combines my love of paranormal romance, writing and being a mom. Stay tuned, I'll have more details as we get more organized - but I can tell you when we open the doors I'll be giving away a copy of my paranormal Christmas book "Her Knight Before Christmas."

Hope you have a great week!

Would you believe there was freakin' frost on the ground when I woke up this morning? I kid you not. Yes, it is almost the end of March and everyday I get up with the hope that it will finally start to warm up - I mean come on - I don't live in Alaska...what's up with this artic blast? Please, Spring show some muscle already!

Would you believe we haven't started my daughter's science fair project yet? Of course you would if you know anything about me and science. I have no scientific aptitude (no math aptitude either...hmm..seeing a pattern here I don't quite like ) So last year we counted fast-food french fries and compared the sodium content. This year I'm leaning toward counting popcorn kernals in microwave popcorn bags. Hmmm, I'm seeing another trend. Well, the project isn't due until Friday, so we've got loads of time to make a decision here )

Would you believe one of my Urban Dictionary Word of the Day words I can use? Yes, I think we can all slip the word "Himbo" into our daily vocabulary, don't you? (And in case you're wondering, it really does mean the male equivalent of a bimbo, whore or slut) I know you want to use it today - or at least think it.

No need to thank me. It's my job.

And last but not least, would you believe I started/joined a group blog? Yes, I blog with my crit group (hmmm, we've been pretty silent lately, must crack the whip on that one.) But we started a group blog for our RWA chapter to showcase our diverse talents.

Stop by and show us some love in our inaugural post if you can! http://www.elirwa.org/blog

Welcome to the New Year's Edition of "Would you believe" Wednesday! Pull up a chair and grab a beverage...

Would you believe...my husband found exactly what I wanted for Christmas? I wanted a suit of armor for the house - and I GOT one!!! I'm pretty sure I'm the only one in the family who is in love with him, my daughter says "he creeps her out" and even the cat won't go near him...but man...I'm so excited! Since he was a little on the awkward side, the hubster couldn't hide him and he would have been a little hard to wrap - so as you can see I was surprised by him a few days before Christmas.

Would you believe... I belong to the best critique group? Yeah, yeah, I know it's a subjective thing. But not only have I been blessed to have these wonderful ladies to bounce my ideas off and get opinions and criticisms I trust to make me a better writer every damn day - they went above and beyond for our 2008 Secret Santa! I'll admit not everyone adhered to the suggested limited budget (cause we all know the economy sucks and add shipping to/from Europe...ouch!) but what impressed me the most was the personal thought that went into these gifts. This was no mere exchange of a card and a chocolate bar, NO! Every gift had meaning to it's recipient. You PC girls are the best! :)

Would you believe... I left my house today and drove to the store in the snow? But to understand how truly monumental this is...here's the backstory: My first year driving as a teenager I had this huge boat of a car and a boyfriend that didn't drive (I was 6 months older and passed my driving test first...yay me!) so being very young and very stupid I drove in any kind of weather. Until the day my car hit some ice and I found myself travelling sideways down my block. When I did a 180 - well that pretty much sealed my fate of never driving in the snow again. Since that day, oh soooo long ago, I am terrified to drive in the snow - and avoid it at all costs. Yes, when I had a job before my kids came along, my one condition of employment was I left with the first flake and didn't come in if it began before I left home! I had a very understanding boss - and I was good at my job - so my request was never questioned in all the years I worked for him. But back to my story for today...my coffee addiction has apparently become a problem :) I left the house this morning - IN THE SNOW for the mere fact I was out of flavored creamer for my coffee!

I think I need help.

Would you believe... my cat is still alive? The tree is down and the cat has survived his second Christmas in our house. Not that my husband wasn't itching to toss Oreo's little black and white butt out the door. And that cat has a death wish - he'd look right at hubby while he sauntered under the tree and used the trunk as a scratching post - jumping in my lap for protection was only going to get him so far! The tree is now packed away!

Your turn...
Related Posts:

No Related Posts
