Romance and Adventure
"A tramp, A gentleman, a poet, a dreamer, a lonely fellow, always hopeful of romance and adventure." ~ Charlie Chaplin

It's no secret I've been a LOST fan since Oceanic 815 crashed on that damn island six years ago. The complexities of the island, the crazy storylines, the characters and their motivations all have been the source of many dinner conversations and blogs. It's been a long ride filled with romance and adventure!
I'm sad to see it end. Was the finale all that I hoped for? Not really, but I'm learning to live with it. ![]()
Even though I didn't get nearly as many answers as I would have liked (such as, what the heck was up with polar bears? Did the island sink or not? Why did "the others" take the kids in season one?... and I could go on and on) the finale did twist my stomach, tug at my heart and I cried like a baby.
This was the ultimate reunion ending. All the couples we've loved over the last six years got the chance to look lovingly into each others eyes, got to hold their hands - and the kisses? Oh, yeah, LOTS of kisses!
I won't give any spoilers, but if you've watched from the beginning all the main characters were on journeys, some the ultimate hero journey or simple journeys of self-discovery or redemption. The island gave them all a chance to fulfill their destiny, live up to their potential or make up for past mistakes.
But the best part of the finale was the end message delivered by Christian Shepard - their relationships made them better people. What a message. Not to get too philosophical here, but isn't that true of life in general? You hang out with good people - you want to be a better person. Of course the reverse if true too. Charlie Chaplin nailed in in the quote up top - everyone craves loves. And all these characters, with all their flaws, found love.
So while I spend the next few days alternating between remembering the feel-good moments of reunions like Sayid and Shannon (man...that was a three tissue one!) or James and Juliet (a definite close second!) I'm also going to think about the bigger message - enjoying the people around me that I've chosen to go through life with. The people I KNOW are making me a better woman, wife, mom, friend, etc. ![]()
How about you?
